Happy Rhino Day!

Here is a sketch I did in the field of a white rhino at lake Nakuru in Kenya a few years ago. Rhinos are behemoths, hold overs from another era. Rhino Poaching is still a problem.  Unfortunately some people still believe in the bogus medicinal and aphrodisiac qualities of rhino horn. When I was in Kenya many of the rhinos actually had armed escorts to protect them from poachers. Saving Rhinos.org is a great organization which educates and supports the protection of rhinos. Go to their website to find out more about World Rhino Day and what we can do to help.

  1. Thanks so much for the comment! You’re kind of a hero of mine so it means a lot to me! I’ve almost worn out my copy of African Diaries. As inspiring as your artwork has been to me it’s really your attitude about wildlife and conservation that I look up to the most. Posts like this remind people that conservation matters if we want to keep these animals around for the future.
I also really appreciate how you seem to be instilling these values into your children as well and teaching them to admire and care for the natural world.
